Please note: Must be a current student of the Sentara College of Health Sciences Monitor Tech Program, scheduled to graduate spring of 2024.

Position Overview:

Observes, recognizes, interprets, evaluates, and documents EKG tracings on telemetry-monitored patients in order to detect deviations from patient's norm. Promptly notifies appropriate personnel of dysrhythmias. Operates and utilizes monitoring system to full capacity. Ensures proper and safe functioning of the telemetry equipment.

Position Qualifications:

  • High School Grad or Equivalent
  • Completion of a monitor technician surveillance program/course required upon hire. Candidates who have not completed a monitor technician surveillance program must complete a certificate program within 90 days of hire. 1 year of experience in monitor technician surveillance within the last 5 years will be accepted in lieu of a monitor tech surveillance program/course.

    * To be released from new employee orientation all Monitor Technicians must successfully complete the Sentara Basic Arrythmia competency tool which includes passing a basic arrythmia exam.*

    Completion of a monitor technician surveillance program/course required upon hire. Candidates who have not completed a monitor technician surveillance program must complete a certificate program within 90 days of hire. Or 1 year experience in monitor technician surveillance within the last 5 years will be accepted in substitute of a monitor tech surveillance program/course. To be released from new employee orientation all Monitor Technicians must successfully complete the Sentara Basic Arrhythmia competency tool which includes passing a basic arrhythmia exam.
