JBS International, Inc., a North Bethesda health and human services consulting firm, seeks a Health Communication Specialist I (Junior Health Communications Specialist) to develop accurate and tailored health communications materials for a variety of audiences. This position is part of a multidisciplinary team supporting government health agencies that aim to address health needs and challenges across diverse populations, communities, and regions. The ideal candidate will be a proactive team player who thrives in a fast-paced, always-changing environment.We invite you to augment our team by applying your communications knowledge, skills, and proven expertise to the core functions of this role:

  • Develop and tailor materials to reach, engage, and meet the needs of diverse target populations and stakeholder groups, including the general public, consumers of behavioral health services, healthcare and behavioral health service providers, policy makers, the media, and federal agency staff
  • Write and edit client deliverables such as social media posts, e-mail communications, video transcripts, and web content per federal plain language guidelines
  • Help gauge and improve the performance of health communications by monitoring traditional and social media channels, gathering analytics, helping perform environmental scans, and engaging in social listening
  • Prepare monthly and ad hoc performance reports for ongoing activities as well as special outreach campaigns
  • Provide day-to-day support of content development activities at the direction of the outreach manager
  • Develop timelines and project milestones to meet deadlinesOur ideal candidate will have applied experience in the above functions and will also:
    • Have a history working in health-focused communications or social and other new media
    • Know how to successfully reach and actively engage the intended audiences by increasing their awareness, shifting beliefs and attitudes, and encouraging changes that improve the behavioral health and overall wellness of individuals, families, and communities
    • Demonstrate success in communications efforts targeting diverse audiences and health professionals MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Education: Bachelor's degree in journalism, media, communications, public health, or related field
      • Language: English fluency (oral and written)
      • Experience: 1 year of experience working in health-related communications field; Government contracting experience a plus; Success in producing high-quality deliverables in a fast-paced collaborative environment
      • Knowledge: Public health, journalism, media, or health communicationsLOCATION: JBS's North Bethesda office (blended onsite/telework schedule); fully remote arrangements may be considered depending on project requirements and candidate qualifications.OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: This position description should not be construed to imply that these requirements are the exclusive standards of the position nor will it be the sole basis for any subsequent employee evaluations.
