***Exercise Physiologist**

This is a part-time position with day shift hours located in Virginia Beach, VA

ORNISH LIFESTYLE MEDICINE

The Exercise Physiologist (EP) is responsible for implementing the Fitness element of the Program and monitoring the response of each participant to the intervention to assure clinical safety. Actively participates in the development of the interdisciplinary treatment plan to ensure the quality, safety and clinical effectiveness of the Program.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

* Bachelor s Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Physical Therapy

*Two years of cardiac rehabilitation experience

* Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Must achieve ACLS certification within one year of employment.

* Computer literacy

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Master s degree preferred.

* Clinical certification in ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist (CES), ACSM Registered Clinical Exercise. Physiologist (RCEP), or AACVPR Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional (CCRP) preferred

*Excellent public speaking skills and knowledge of adult education and coaching principles

* Excellent interpersonal communication skills with sensitivity to participant needs

* Desire and willingness to collaborate as a member of a high-functioning transdisciplinary team that supports personal transformation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Assists in coordinating and implementing all phases of education and exercise therapy programs for the rehabilitation of persons with cardiovascular and pulmonary disease. Assists in collection of data to complete the initial patient assessment, the development of an exercise plan and a plan for education about life-style modification for Phase I and II cardiac/pulmonary rehab patients. Monitors and treats patients during exercise, assisting with modification of the exercise plan and conducts patient education.

*Organizes, supervises, and delivers the exercise portion of the Program per guidelines and protocol * Performs body composition/BMI/anthropometric and other assessments per protocol

* Provides individual exercise prescriptions based on ACSM guidelines for each participant

* Updates exercise prescriptions after each graded exercise test or as necessary

* Documents participant and Program exercise data as required

* Participates in the development of the interdisciplinary treatment plan for each participant

* Monitors exercise adherence for all participants and provides exercise counseling on an individual basis as needed.

*Assists the Program Director with efforts to actively promote the Program to prospective participants and health care professionals as needed.

* Delivers Program exercise guidelines lectures per protocol and educational in-services as necessary

* Attends and participates in weekly team meetings/case conferences.

*Provides support to Ornish Alumni Community as needed.

* Participates in the monitoring, documentation, and communication of the participant s response to the interdisciplinary treatment plan throughout the Program.
