OverviewScience and Technology Corporation (STC) is seeking a full time Lead Sheet Metal Technician in the Manufacturing Applications Branch (MAB) at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC). We are in search of a highly skilled and motivated individual to perform a lead role in sheet metal fabrication. This role is versatile, covering all facets of metals fabrication to include sheet metal and heavy metal fabrication, mechanical connections, and space flight assembly practices.ResponsibilitiesFabricator will support the daily operations of the Metals Applications Branch and other areas as required, will assure that all equipment is well maintained and in working order, stay abreast of new technologies in the field of metals fabrication and maintain a state-of-the-art capability. Often, candidate will be required to perform metals fabrication in areas outside of the branch. Candidate is expected to work directly with engineers and researchers in order to understand project deliverables. Individual must have experience in estimation, reporting out in project meetings, and a strong ability to communicate using various platforms. Candidate must be well organized in order to maintain all work package requirements and follow NASA procedures. Technician will be responsible for the planning, scheduling, cost estimate and performance of metal fabrication services in support of research projects.QualificationsMinimum of 10 years related experience and a high level of understanding engineered fabrication drawings.Computer skills at or above average for use with Excel, Outlook and E2 Work Package System.Experience with operating metals fabrication equipment such as hydraulic press brake, plate roller, and metal shear.Proficient with safe operation of equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes and oscillating boom lifts.Conventional and specialized forming processes of metals and their alloys in various sheet, plate and structural forms.Fastening metal components utilizing certified aircraft and commercial fasteners (i.e. bolts, nuts, screws, rivets, Jo-bolts, Heli-Coils, Cherry fasteners, etc.)Aeronautics and space flight qualified aviation metal and composite fabrication experience.Experience working in a team environment on projects that require multiple skills and coordination across several organizations. Individual must also work well with minimal supervision while maintaining compliance to contract requirements.Possess good communication skills both oral and written.Valid VA driver's license with ability to drive company vehicles.Extensive knowledge in hand tools and able to drill precision holes to meet engineered tolerances (.005" - .030" tolerances are normal).High School Diploma or equivalent required.The ability to pass a background investigation.Preferred Relevant Skills and Abilities:Possess a current A&P license Mobile Crane Operator Previous welding experience to include Tig, Mig, and Flux-Cored.Oxygen and Acetylene and Plasma Torch operation.
