A division of Huntington Ingalls IndustriesJob DescriptionJoin our System Integration (SI) team whose accomplishments make a positive impact supporting the U.S. Navy and national defense! SI trades teams provide expert solutions on shipboard alterations & installation for fleet modernization. The selected candidate will be supporting the SI team working on active class submarines, surface ships and shore facilities with the proper placement and fitting into place structural piping items to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization on various contracts such as Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Naval Information Warfare Systems Command and Naval Surface Warfare Center. SI's trades teams travel to shipyards and military bases located around and out of the country when not assigned to a local task. Essential Job ResponsibilitiesInstalls, operates, maintains, repairs and modifies equipment.Performs a variety of complicated tasks in maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.Analyzes and evaluates products and related performance.Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time.Installs, upgrades and removes products ensuring coordinative engineering field change.Applies understanding of production and processes to assignments.Maintains effective customer communications and relations.May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.May assist in the development and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.Performs other duties as assign, sometimes outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.Minimum QualificationsMust have High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.Must be able to interpret blueprints and drawings.Must be able to identify system and component location based on ships structure.Must have knowledge and experience in planning, layout, cutting, fitting, and assembly of pipe onboard marine vessels.Must be proficient with standard pipe fitting procedures including P-1 High energy systems. Lock-ring, silver braze (Grade III, IV, V).Must have a proficient use of layout tools.Must have experience with proper placement and fitting into place structural piping item.Must be able to travel 50% - 75% of the time. Must be able to obtain a DoD secret clearance and maintain throughout employment.Must be able to obtain base access/credentials with in the first 60 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.Must be able to provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.Must be a U.S. citizen.Preferred RequirementsPrior experience welding on shipboard systems preferred. Prior C4I experience preferred.Candidates who have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school or a skilled trades certificate program are preferred.Candidates with combination piping and plate welding qualifications preferred. OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus.Current Shipyard Competent Person Certification preferred.Physical RequirementsMust be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 50 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator.
