Job Duties The chief objective of this position is to serve as the
lead attorney who focuses on identifying and bringing civil actions
alleging pattern and practice violations of the Virginia Fair
Housing Law (VFHL), the Virginia Human Rights Act (VHRA), the
Public Integrity and Law Enforcement Misconduct Act (PILEM) along
with other relevant civil rights laws enforced by the Office of
Civil Rights. Specifically, the attorney will plan and direct
litigation activities that seek to eliminate patterns and practice
of discrimination that violate the anti-discrimination provisions
of the VFHL, VHRA, and PILEM, including the preparation and
presentation of complex civil cases before state circuit courts.
This will require the ability to plan, direct and control
litigation activities, involving subject matter jurisdiction,
adequacy and admissibility of evidence, proper application of
judicial precedent, and the rules of civil procedure. These actions
will be based on alleged violations that raise an issue of general
public importance or involve patterns and practices of
discrimination in housing, employment, places of public
accommodation, including educational institutions, as well as other
areas covered by the VFHL, VHRA, PILEM, or other state and federal
civil rights laws. The attorney will also work closely with OCR
investigators to assist with investigative plans and preparing
final determination analyses for complaints alleging pattern and
practice violations of the VHRA or other civil rights violations in
preparation for and support of litigation. The attorney may also
assist with litigating other cases in state circuit courts. Minimum
Qualifications • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three
to five (3-5) years of relevant litigation experience with a
background in civil rights. • Excellent leadership, interpersonal,
and communication skills are required. • Must be admitted to the
Virginia State Bar. Special Instructions Application materials
