Position Overview
The Hampton Roads Community Health Center is looking for LPNs to
work in our Norfolk locations. Under general supervision, this
non-exempt position is responsible for administering nursing care
to the health center patients and performing a variety of direct
and indirect patient care duties.
Key responsibilities include:
Greets and triages incoming patients by obtaining vital signs,
chief complaint, reconciles medication list, reconciles allergies,
and prepares patient for the visit; prepares patients for
procedures, provides basic patient care and examinations as
directed, and assists providers with procedures.
Scans upcoming appointments for additional medical record
information necessary; obtains medical records from other physician
offices, hospitals, labs, emergency rooms and radiology prior to
patient visit; administers injections of medications or
immunizations in accordance with approved nursing protocols; and
observes patients for any reaction to medications, immunizations,
treatments, and significant incidents.
Cross trains in all clinical departments, helps with pharmacy
requests, in house labs, and enters of all data in the Electronic
Medical record; prepares and disinfects exam rooms for patient
visits, restocks clinical area, exam rooms, and supply rooms; and
sterilizes/disinfects instruments when used (including autoclaving)
and maintains medical equipment.
Performs administrative support work such as word processing,
creating spreadsheets, data entry and retrieval; orders, monitors
and distributes program supplies/resources; and other information
to ensure accuracy and conformance to established procedures and
policies; and counsels patients regarding patient responsibilities
and rights; adheres to patient confidentiality guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Satisfactory
completion of state approved medical assistant program. Successful
completion of a medical assistant certification (Certified Medical
Assistant CMA, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant CCMA, or
Registered Medical Assistant RMA) is required. Previous medical
practice experience preferred. Must be certified in Basic Life
Support techniques as a condition of continued employment.
