Title: NSU00242 - Auto & Equipment Repair Technician State Role Title: Equipment Serv Repair Tech I Hiring Range: $50,000-$55,000 Pay Band: 3 Agency: Norfolk State University Location: Norfolk State University Agency Website: www.nsu.edu Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties • Inspect and tests vehicles, automotive systems, and related equipment and diagnoses complex malfunctions using computerized diagnostic equipment. • Conduct electronic engine analyses and various specialized tests, such as exhaust gas analysis, emission system analysis, electrical system analysis, electronic laboratory oscilloscope analysis, and scan tool analysis. • Repair engine drivability, emissions and other computer controlled mechanical and electrical systems using various electronic and computerized devices. • Perform complex mechanical repairs and extensive overhauls of all types of major automotive components, assemblies and sub-assemblies. • Operate and maintains tools and equipment of the automotive trade. Cleans work area upon completion of project. • Prepare reports and inspection forms. • Essential Personnel Position May provide guidance and instruction to lower-level Automotive Mechanics. Minimum Qualifications 1. Extensive years of related experience, technical training, valid driver’s license 2. Knowledge of the operating systems used on motor vehicles and motorized equipment. 3. The ability to diagnose mechanical and related malfunctions to determine root causes. 4. Knowledge of standard tools, testing equipment, equipment procedures and practices used in the repair and preventive maintenance of fleet and motorized equipment. 5. The ability to write routine correspondence, maintenance logs, and order forms. Additional Considerations Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
