Title: Adult Education Teacher: Indian Creek Correctional Center ED013 State Role Title: Trainer and Instructor II & 29112 Hiring Range: $62,643.00 - $89,521.00 Pay Band: 4 Agency: Dept of Corr - Central Admin Location: Indian Creek Correctional Ctr Agency Website: https://vadoc.virginia.gov Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties (ABE/GED), To provide quality instructions and to meet the individual needs of the students in the areas of Adult Basic Education and GED. Additionally, to meet the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements. Minimum Qualifications (ABE / GED), bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in Adult Education/Special Education or in a relevant educational field. Must have teaching experience of either 2000 Hours in the Last 5 years or 2 years of Recent Relevant Experience in Adult Education. Experience teaching adults and or youth and knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education is a must. Licensure: Must be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License by the Virginia Department of Education. License in 'relevant educational field' is required. If you do not currently hold a teachers/trade license from the Department of Education (DOE): 1. You must submit all documentation for your provisional license to the licensure designee for VADOC during the first 90 days of employment. 2. Obtaining a provisional license within the 1-year probationary period is employee’s responsibility and is required to continuing employment at the DOC. (For Licensing Information Visit: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/teaching/licensure/index.shtml) The ability to engage students in one-on-one teaching of all the five subjects and supervise students and aides in a classroom setting; the ability to maintain accurate records; the ability to facilitate other instructors. Knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education. Must possess working knowledge of all facets of the basic adult education field, adult literacy and computer software appropriate for program needs. Demonstrate competency in the relevant field of current licensure. Additional Considerations Master’s degree with a major or minor in a relevant educational field. Prefer experience teaching adults and or youth in a correctional or alternative education setting. Prefer knowledge and experience of policy and procedures governing adult correctional education. Knowledge of correctional education classroom management. The ability to supervise students and inmate aides in the correctional facility; knowledge of the Department of Corrections (DOC) institutional policies and procedures.
