Job Description Job Description Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1 year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A full-time Sign Language Interpreter role is available to support elementary students in a K-12 school setting within the Virginia Beach area. This contract position runs from ASAP through June 16, 2026, with a schedule of 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Part-time and itinerant opportunities may also be considered, offering flexibility to accommodate the needs of multiple school locations. Responsibilities include providing 1:1 interpreting services primarily for elementary-aged students. Interpreters are not campus-bound and may be deployed across different schools as needed to cover absences or support other students. Familiarity with Visaphonics is preferred but not mandatory. This role demands excellent communication skills to facilitate understanding in educational environments. Qualifications: Valid VA Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification EIPA Score of 3.5 preferred; candidates with scores 3.0 and above will be considered Alternatively, a QAS Score of 3 or higher is acceptable Experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings is an advantage Ability to work onsite in the Portsmouth, VA area Key Details: Location: Virginia Beach area (onsite only) Caseload: Primarily elementary students, 1:1 assignments Hours: Full-time (35 hours/week, Monday-Friday), part-time itinerant positions possible Duration: Contract through June 16, 2026 This position offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in students educational experiences by bridging communication gaps.
